Obituary of Santo D'Angelo

Santo Michael ("Mike or "Sandy") D'Angelo, 86, of Bedford, NY, passed away peacefully July 1, 2018 after a brief illness at Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco, NY. He will be forever remembered as a loving father to three girls, a doting grandfather to five grandchildren, a caring brother, and generous friend and longtime community member.

Born in Flushing, NY to the late Joseph and Ida (LaBarbera) D'Angelo, Sandy attended Flushing High School where he met his loving wife of 54 years Gonda (Sussheim) until her passing in 2006. He graduated from Hofstra University before receiving his Master's Degree from New York University. Sandy was a decorated U.S. veteran of the Korean War, earning a Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star along with other medals while serving as Sergeant in the 45th Infantry "A" Core Black Patch. He had a successful corporate career in human resources and labor relations, having held several executive positions at General Foods, Revlon and later GlaxoSmithKline. After retiring, Sandy and Gonda spent much of their time traveling throughout the world. In his free time he loved watching classic movies and reading, and frequented the Bedford Public Library. He was an avid golfer and former member of Mount Kisco Country Club. Perhaps his most prized round was when he shot a double eagle on Michigan's Broadmoor course in 1973.

He is also predeceased by his parents, and brother, William D'Angelo. He is survived by his three daughters; Carolyn Marvin (Chris) of New Fairfield, CT; Lisa D'Angelo (David Kaput) of Wilmette, IL; and Cynthia Kingsley (Bill) of Wayne, PA; his grandchildren, Nicole Gorman (George), and Andrew, William, Jeremy and Annalise D'Angelo; his brother, Joseph D'Angelo of Whitestone, NY; and sister-in-law, Margot Suesheim of Flushing, NY.

The family will receive friends from 10am to 12:45pm on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at Oelker-Cox & Sinatra Funeral Home, 262 E. Main Street, Mt. Kisco, NY 10549. A private family interment will be held following at St. Francis Cemetery, 2 Green Street, Mt. Kisco, NY.
