Lucy Casagrande Picani, a loving mother, wife, and friend, entered into eternal life peacefully on January 19, 2019, at the age of 97. Lucy was born on February 15, 1921, to proud parents Luigi and Maria Picani in the City of Yonkers. She attended the New York School of Design where she majored in fashion. Upon her graduation, Lucy embarked on a career as a seamstress. Although Lucy enjoyed sewing garments, her passion was crocheting. Lucy delighted in crocheting wonderfully woven blankets or uniquely colorful butterflies for family and friends. Lucy was active in the St. Dennis parish, where she was President of the PTA and President of the Alter Society. In 1947 Lucy met a dashing young man named Louis Casagrande. The foundation of Lucy and Louis devoted bond was based on selflessness, respect, communication, faith in God, and love. They received the sacrament of holy matrimony on April 18, 1948. In their shared 67 years together, Lucy and Louis were blessed with three loving children: John, Maria and Philip. Lucy's daily objective, was to connect in a positive way with her husband and her children so that they were solid in the knowledge of their unique value in the world and in her life. Lucy's heart was filled with adoration and unconditional love for her family. Lucy also liked to play the slot machines and she was an extraordinary cook.
Mom (Lovely Lady), may you fly freely like a butterfly always in the midst of Gods loving grace. Love you always…….your son Philip
Blessed are those who know the beautiful essence of the butterfly!
