Joseph V. Manzo, age 88, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle died peacefully at his home on Friday, September 18, 2009. A lifelong Yonkers resident, he was born on May 23, 1921 to the late Charles and Antoinette Manzo (nee Pettignano). He is survived by his four children, Charles Manzo (Debbie), Joseph Manzo (Carol), Carol Cacciatore, Pat Manzo (Sue), three stepchildren, eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, a sister Mary Giannico and several nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his wife Doreen, one brother Vincent, and three sisters, Theresa, Mildred an Caroline. He was a U.S. Marine first and foremost, proudly serving our country in World War II. After leaving the service he celebrated 35 years of employment at the General Motors assembly plant in Tarrytown, NY. For the past 35 years he served as the heart and soul of VFW Lowerre Post 3083 on McLean Avenue in Yonkers. He held several prestigious positions during his tenure, most notably, Commander, Vice Commander and House Chairman. He and his wife Doreen gave endless and unselfish time and effort in support of the many activities and community services offered by the organization they loved so much. He was also an active member of the Charles N. Bajart Jr., American Legion Post 1122. Loved by many, to be missed by all, may he rest in peace. Visitation for family and friends will be at Sinatra Funeral Home, 601 Yonkers Ave. Hours are Sunday, September 20, 7-9 p.m., Monday, September 21, 2-4 p.m., and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 22 at 10:00 at Sinatra Memorial Home with interment to follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Putnam Valley.
