I just came to know of Mr. Romano's passing. I am so sad to know that he is not with us but I know he has become an angel up in heaven.
Mr Romano was definitely one of a kind. He helped my mother not once but twice. He fought in Court with my brother who tried to take the house from my mother. I still remember him saying to my brother how could you do this to your mother. He protected my mother as if she was his own mother.
Later he fought in Court with my step father in a divorce case and protected my mother from losing her home. He was an angel in our life and I often think of him and his help in making sure that my mother did not loose her home that she worked so hard to build. Because of it, today my mother has a roof over her head in her old age. He was a good man. A fighter in Court but very funny. His style in Court was like no other. I am fortunate enough to see his work more than once. In the process, I got to know about him also. He mentioned about his mother and talked about his WWII days and he mentioned that he was a a graduate of St. John's University, which was also my alma mater. I had called couple of years back to check on him. He had already retired and was not able to speak to him. I am sure he is in a better place for touching so many lives for the better including ours.

To the Family of John:
Our deepest condolences to the entire Romano Family.
Having spent the summer in Italy and coming home and hearing about John's death was a shock to me and Bet.
We have fond memories of John over the last 60 years, following his achievements in business, community service, helping Italian immigrants, fellowship with the "Thursday night guys" and dinner at various Italian organizations but especially his devotion to "la familia".
There was and will only be one John Romano and it was an honor to know him and consider him our friend!
May he rest in peace.

Dear Uncle John,
I will always remember your bubbly personality! Many years ago, you practiced law in Yonkers with your brother, and my father, Albert, and together you made a great team and partnership. We are family, and I feel that I have taken after you when it comes to treating everyone equal and with kindness. May God bless you and keep you in his care always! I remember going to visit my Uncle John on Saturdays at his law office in Yonkers. My dad, Al (Uncle John's brother), worked with him, and I always looked forward to seeing Uncle John's smiling face. I also remember that my Uncle John helped me pay for my Dad's funeral expenses. We split the fees 50/50, which was so nice and generous of him.
May God Bless you always Uncle John. Rest in peace.
Love, your niece,
Jill Romano Costa

To the Romano Family:
I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my dear friend and professional
colleague, John Romano. I have lived in Yonkers all my life and like my father, Anthony G. Orlando Jr. John was a World War II veteran and went on to serve our community after the war. John and my father knew each other and both helped to start the Enrico Fermi Scholarship Fund along with it's founder, Mike Vitulli. My father
passed away when he was only 54 in 1970, when he was Principal of Commerce High School. I first met John when I was a young assistant district attorney here in Westchester County serving under another of my heroes, District Attorney, Carl Vergari. Was an ADA for 13 years and had many cases where John was the defense attorney. He was beloved by all and we all learned much from him. He was incredibly
kind and charming as an adversary in court and one of my fondest memories of John
is making us all laugh from time to time, when he would enter a judge's chambers to
conference a case, and he would slide across the room up to the judge and kiss his ring! God bless John and the Romano family. There will never be another. Geoff Orlando.

I recently heard of Mr Romano 's passing and was very saddened. As a Mamaroneck Village Police Officer I thoroughly enjoyed his more than entertaining cross examinations even though he was working for the defense side of the law. I've often talked about his tactics in conversation in sincere admiration. John was a man i truly admired . One of a kind , RIP Mr Romano.

"Champion of the People" is the truth. John has been known to me since 1973. I worked as a lawyer for 14 years and now for the court system for 31 years. All attorneys receive the attention of our judges, but John commanded particular respect and attention. When he entered the courtroom, it was like a tank entering a battlefield -- he got attention and deserved it! John was always respectful, concise, and spoke truly. His position was always value-based. He knew, and communicated, that there is a Law above the law. I last saw him representing a poor minority client who was in the wrong. John knew to seek not justice for him but mercy (and of course he received it). John is not a Chianti -- he is a Barolo who mellowed wonderfully over the years. Our temporary loss is Heaven's gain

John was a legend in the Westchester County legal community. You cannot tell a John Romano courtroom story without hearing other lawyers join in with their own favorite. His style was genuine and unique... born of a strong sense of humor, keen wit, sense of fairness and mostly generosity. He was a brilliant writer of short stories mostly about the old neighborhood and WW II. It was truly an honor to have known him as a mentor and a friend.

Although I did not know John personally, I know him to be a legend in every courthouse in Westchester as a gifted and impassioned attorney. But perhaps his greatest gift was helping the unfortunate by giving them opportunities to become successful in their own right. I know this to be true because he passed this gift onto his son Andrew whom I have known for 20 years. I have witnessed first hand the depths of Andrew’s kindness and generosity of spirit which he inherited from his father, John Romano, his hero. What better legacy can be left by any man?
With gratitude and in sympathy,
Nancy J. Marrone.

I’ve known John Romano most of my life. From early childhood in the 60s, I can remember him meeting with my dad and uncle and listening to them talk business, (I was a nosy little girl) more importantly, I remember his smile and his jokes. They say in life we never forget kindness and I have to agree because even though I was an annoying, bratty, little thing he always took the time to pay attention to me and make me laugh. Now, fast forward over five decades and I have the privilege of saying that throughout all of those years whether our paths crossed socially or professionally he continued to be kind and always made me laugh. God shared you with all of us but now he needs you back and calls you home. If you can hear me first let me say that it has been an honor to know you were a true role model and hero among men here on earth. I am honored and grateful to call you a friend. Good journey John! Until we one day meet again!

I offer my condolences to the family of my friend and colleague John Romano, Esq. I was involved multiple times with John in legal matters, both civil and criminal, always in a very professional manner. John had a way of bringing all of the difficult issues down to simple facts and understandable situations. We enjoyed talking about our Marine Corps experiences and the brotherhood that all Marines experience. The world has lost a good man but he leaves a legacy in the courts in his son Andrew. Semper Fi brother Marine as you join the communion of saints. I will miss you.
