Obituary of Vera E. Matsen

Vera E. Matsen, 91, of Elmsford, NY passed away on Sunday, November 3rd. Vera was the cherished wife for 46 years of Robert; the beloved mother of Philip, Jean (David Piccorelli), and Matthew (Stephanie), and the proud grandmother of 8 grandchildren: Lorraine, Justin, Kate, Fiona, Leo, Kyle, Christa, and Maggie. She is survived by her brothers Dino Ippolito, Aldo Ippolito, and her sisters Alma Walshak and Ada Schneider. Proceeding her in passing were her brothers Ezio, Ugo, and earlier this year, Elio Ippolito. Vera was born in New York City on September 21, 1928 to Frank Ippolito and Maria Bloise. She was a graduate of Scarborough School, received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Good Counsel College, White Plains, and her Master of Arts degree from Columbia University. Upon her graduation she served as a teacher at Cortland High School, Bayshore High School, and Washington Irving School. Vera devoted herself as a mother and wife, while also working closely with her brother Elio in his medical practice. Vera enjoyed spending time with her family, her friends and especially her grandchildren. Her many interests included traveling with her husband, theatre, puzzles, coloring, cooking, social gatherings, celebrating holidays with family, attending church, handwritten cards and letters, and ensuring the well-being of all those that she had the pleasure of meeting. She was a very social woman that wanted everyone around her to enjoy the happiness of life. She had a deep faith in God maintained by her church and religious beliefs. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, November 7th, 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Sinatra Memorial Home located at 499 Yonkers Avenue, Yonkers NY. The Funeral Mass will be on Friday, November 8th, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church located at 417 Broadway in Dobbs Ferry. Interment will follow at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Sleepy Hollow, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you give to the charity of your choice.
