Rose D'Amico

Obituary of Rose F. D'Amico

Please share a memory of Rose to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On December 29, 2019, surrounded by her loving family, our dear mother and grandmother, Rose D'Amico, age 92, peacefully made her transition. Rose is survived by her beloved children, Joseph (Susan) D'Amico, Tinalouise (Anthony) Regina, Josephine D'Amico; her cherished grandchildren, Nicole (Justin) Stamps, Christopher, Nicholas and Anthony (AJ) Regina as well as many loved nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Rose was predeceased, in 1985, by her husband of 37 years, Julius (Chuck) D'Amico; her parents, Saverio and Luisa Ombres; her siblings, Bridget (Jerry) Pati, Josie (Pat) Antolino, Frank (Eleanor) Ombres, Angelo (Katherine) Ombres as well as her in-laws from the D'Amico Family. Born in Manhattan, raised and educated in the Bronx, Rose called Yonkers her home for over 60 years. For more than 30 years, she was employed in the Accounts Payable Department at the Stella D'Oro Biscuit Company in Riverdale. Following her "early retirement" at age 75, Rose devoted more of her time to her favorite pastimes, i.e., visiting local flea markets, shopping for things she did not need, learning to navigate her laptop, contributing to the casinos in Atlantic City on a weekly basis and attending the horse races at Yonkers Raceway. Her intent was to have her photo op in the Winners Circle when one of her horses won a race. In the last few years, unable to travel to Atlantic City, Rose often spent her time crocheting, solving puzzles, watching NCIS marathons or various detective shows, and sitting on her porch chatting with her many wonderful neighbors or enjoying a few feral cats that adopted her. A woman with a sharp sense of humor, Rosie demonstrated determination and resilience. As a child she survived a two year recuperative time after having polio. During her later years, her resilience was apparent when she experienced numerous health challenges and surgeries. She always believed her compassionate physicians and specialist would find a way to heal her, and, when necessary, the staff and rehabilitation team at The Hebrew Home for the Aged in Riverdale would have her up and moving in no time for which she was grateful. She overcame much for so many years. Through it all, Rose always demonstrated more concern and love for others than worry about herself. However, as 2019 came to a close, she decided it was time for her to finally rest and be reunited with all her loved ones who transition before her. As a family we are happy that Mom fought through her health challenges to participate in 2 family celebrations allowing her to reconnect with both the Ombres and D'Amico sides of the family, to attend Nicole and Justin's wedding this summer, to celebrate her 92nd birthday, and to be with us for another Christmas celebration. Her one regret was being uncertain she would be here to see Christopher's college graduation. We are also grateful, as was she, to be truly blessed with all the love, support and prayers over the years, not only from our entire family, but from our many friends and neighbors who became part of our extended family.
