Obituary of Giovanni De Feo

Please share a memory of Giovanni to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Giovanni DeFeo passed on Monday, April 13th, 2020. Giovanni was born in Santo Stefano, Italy in the midst of World War II. His birthdate was July 29th, 1938. Italy had won the World Cup against Hungary. Superman was introduced to the world that year in his first comic book. Giovanni was one of six children born to Olimpia Marranzino DeFeo and Pietro DeFeo. He is survived by his sister Adelina, brother Giuseppe (Peppo), Beniamino, and Arturo. His older sister, Carmela, was taken from us several years ago. Giovanni leaves behind his adoring wife of 53+ years, Antonietta Pisacreta DeFeo. His namesake, Giovanni Jr, was taken from us last year. He is survived by his daughter, Olimpia DeFeo Elia and youngest son, Antonio DeFeo. He leaves behind 8 grandchildren, Daniela, Vittoria, Julianna, John, Antonio, Amanda, Leonardo and Gaetano and 2 great grandchildren, Sofia and Ginevra (both in Italy). Giovanni had a difficult and dangerous childhood as the horrors of war brought bloodshed and death to Italian soil. Later in adolescence, he entered the Italian Army, as required by law. Although only receiving Primary education in Italy (to the equivalent of 5th grade), John, as most called him, forged a life in America when he emigrated in his early 20s. He was best of friends with his future bride's twin brother, Andrea Pisacreta. He learned the English language and took jobs to pay the bills and support his family. John eventually entered the Laborers' Union Local 60 and worked for various companies as a Foreman. He would regale his family with stories of all the buildings and projects he could claim as they drove past them in the car. "See that? I built that." John will be remembered as a good soul forever. Whether he fixed the water well in his hometown during his family vacation in Italy OR lent a helping hand to anyone who needed it, he always showed the kind of heart that is in rare supply these days. His family will miss him dearly and their greatest regret may be that in dying during this horrible pandemic, so many friends and family that want to pay their respect in person cannot. On behalf of his wife, Antonietta, we assure you, we feel your love for him, through calls and messages to the home and love you for it. Please protect yourselves and your families in this troubling time.
