Philip J. Amicucci was born and raised in the City of Yonkers. He was the son of the late Antonio and Josephine (Mattessino) Amicucci. His father was born in Tagliacozzo, Italy and emigrated to the United States in the early 1900's. His mother was born in the United States. He was the youngest child in the family. His immediate family consisted of three brothers Dominick (deceased) , Anthony (Roy) (deceased), Louis (deceased) and a sister Frances (Catalogna) (deceased). He attended and graduated from the Yonkers School System and received an A.A.S. Degree from White Plains State Tech, now called Westchester Community College. He attended Bronx Community College and Mercy College. He was former President of the Thomas A. Ragone Association, former Treasurer of the Seventh Ward War Memorial Fund, former member of the Yonkers Italian Heritage Day Committee and former Delegate to the Westchester Federation of Italian-American Organizations. Mr. Amicucci was a member of the Columbus Day Celebration Committee, Enrico Fermi Scholarship Foundation, Delegate to the Congress of Italian-American Organizations (C.I.A.O.), Yonkers, New York (of which he was its first Chairman), President of the St. Donato Mutual Aid Society, member of the Board of Directors of Greystone Co-op #1 of Westchester, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Service Employees International Union (S.E.I.U.) Local 704. In 1972, he was honored by C.I.A.O. as the outstanding Italian-American of the year for his service to the Italian-American Community and to C.I.A.O. In 1980, he received the Humanitarian Award from the Yonkers Columbus Day Committee for his outstanding service to the Committee and to the community. Philip was employed by the City of Yonkers for 26 years. He retired as a Senior Housing Inspector in 1995. On Saturday, April 11, 2020, Philip J. Amicucci passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 88. He is survived by his beloved wife Rachael (Pappalardo), of 61 years, loving daughter, Caroline (Michael) Calabrese, granddaughter Nicole (Keith) Galdi and grandson Michael Calabrese. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends. He will always be remembered for his great love and devotion to his family and friends. Funeral services will be private. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
