Alexander Mitchell Sime, 86, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 after a short illness.
Mitch was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 4 1934 to Alex and Betsy (Meldrum) Sime. The family moved to Armonk, NY in 1951. Mitch married the love of his life, Jean McKenna (an Armonk native), in 1954. They had two children, Mitch Jr. and Sandy. Mitch had a landscaping business for many years and eventually became a caretaker for John and Betsy Sluder in Armonk. He retired in 2004.
Mitch joined the Armonk Volunteer Fire Department in 1956, and was an active member for over 64 years. He was chief from 65-67, and a commissioner for many years. Mitch witnessed many changes in equipment and procedures over the years. But most of all he liked working with the people there. He enjoyed his time with the department very much.
Mitch believed in community service and helping anybody he could. If you asked, he would be there if you needed him. Mitch had an interesting sense of humor. If Mitch busted your chops and gave you grief, it meant he liked you.
Mitch is survived by his wife Jean of 65 years, son Mitch and wife Mary Beth of Carmel, NY; daughter Sandy and husband Tom Sikora of Bushnell, FL; five grandchildren – Steve and wife Elise of Stoneham, MA, Chris and wife Michelle of Oceanside, CA, Leanne Sikora of Austin, TX, Caitlin Sime of South Amboy, NJ, and Alex Sikora of Charleston. SC; two great granddaughters - Gabriella and a baby girl due in the beginning of May; two sisters - Margaret (Louis) Gullotta and Shelia Baker; his in-laws Fred McKenna and Millie Ellis. He also survived by many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews that he loved to visit and spend time with. He was predeceased by his brother and sister in laws Beatrice McKenna, Hugh (Buddy) and Cecilia McKenna, Noel Ellis, and Jim McKenna.
With the current situation, a memorial service will be held at safe time in the future
