Obituary of William Golub
Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bill Golub, 98, passed away on May 27, 2020 from complications due to Covid-19. Bill was predeceased by his wife, Ruth, and is survived by his three daughters, Judy Berg (Peter,) Maxine Golub (Andrew Levine,) and Nancy Adler (Lester,) six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Bill and his family moved to Armonk in 1959 where he quickly became an active member of the Armonk community. He was a member of the Friends of the North Castle Library, and in 1961, when the first Armonk Outdoor Art Show was held to raise funds for an addition to the library, he designed the poster that is still used today. The Art Show poster is now part of a Smithsonian exhibit on the impact of community philanthropy.
A talented commercial artist, Bill also designed sets and made posters for the North Castle Players, and created pieces for the Green Acres Garden Club and the North Castle Historical Society's Home Tours. He designed the logo for the Windmill Club, and provided the eagle design for Armonk's bicentennial that can still be found on many of the town's street signs. Many of his posters hang in private homes, restaurants, the Town Hall, the Library and the Senior Center in Armonk. In 2007, the Historical Society honored him with an exhibition of his 25 years of contributions to the town, and in 2012 he was added to Westchester County's Senior Citizen Hall of Fame.
Bill helped to design his home in Windmill and lived there for 60 years before moving to The Bristal in Armonk last year. He and Ruth always marveled at the fact that two city kids could end up living in such a beautiful place. They loved the birds, the changing seasons, and the small town friendliness of Armonk. For many years, they could be found having breakfast at Schriefer's, where all the locals stopped to say hello.
Burial will be private. Donations in his memory can be made to The North Castle Historical Society 440 Bedford Rd, Armonk, NY 10504.
