Fortunato Macri, aged 89, passed away peacefully into the Arms of Our Lord on October 20, 2020 at 12:45am at Regional Hospice of Danbury in CT. Fortunato was born on May 10, 1931, in Regio Calabria, Italy, the son of the late Salvatore and Maria Macri. Fortunato was always a hard worker, back as a young man living in Italy. In 1952, at the age of 21, Fortunato came to America on the USS Constitution. He loved telling stories of his journey on that ship. Once in the United States, he continued his strong work ethic and proudly became an American citizen. Fortunato worked as a laborer, with much of his time spent operating a jackhammer. No other man on his team could endure this challenging work like he did, even as he grew older. He often commented how he surpassed those 20-something-year-olds. After his retirement, he loved spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter Erica. She could often be found on his shoulder, asking her Nonno for another ride. He always said "yes" to his Erica. Fortunato was predeceased by his wife Gemma Macri and brother Salvatore Macri. He is survived by his daughter Maria (husband Anthony), and granddaughter Erica (husband Joseph)—who he loved so very much and taught his strong Italian values. He will be missed by many. The family will greet friends on Sunday, October 25 from 1-5 pm at the Sinatra Memorial Home, Inc at 499 Yonkers Ave., Yonkers. Funeral mass will be held on Monday, October 26th at 11AM at Church of Saint Eugene on Tuckahoe and Central Ave., Yonkers. Entombment will follow at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, NY. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Regional Hospice, 30 Milestone Road, Danbury, CT 06810
