Obituary of Bridget "Betty" M. Bauman

Bridget “Betty” Margaret Bauman (Canavan), loving wife, mother of four, grandmother of three and great-grandmother, was born May 18, 1923 in Dunfermline, Scotland. Daughter of Thomas Canavan and Isabella, she grew up in Mt. Vernon NY and was a member of Our Lady of Victory Parish. After graduating from A.B. Davis High School she went on to work for the Reinhold Publishing Co., NYC. She later married Joseph A. Bauman Sr. of Rochester. The couple lived a short time in Saddle Brook NJ, raised their 4 children in Mt. Vernon, and finally settled in Yonkers, NY. She will be forever known for kindness, compassion, love, and generosity as testified by everyone who ever knew her (beloved “Aunt Betty”). For a period of time, she was a caregiver-foster parent for the Westchester division of the New York Foundling, while raising her own children. She also worked for a time at Sonitrol Security Systems. A longtime resident of Yonkers and member of Christ the King parish, she attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in her last years.

She is pre-deceased by her husband Joseph, sisters Mary and Christine, son Gerard, and nephew Steven Merola. She is survived by her sons Kevin, Joseph, and daughter Susan Bauman. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Brittany Bauman, Jillian Bauman Kulikowski husband Kevin, Marc Bauman wife MaryAnn, and great-grandson Tommaso. She is also survived by niece Judith Merola Glum and nephew John Robert Merola. Pre-deceased by nieces Nancy Schubert Sexton, Barbara Schubert Porth, and nephew James Werth. Survived also by nephews Frederick Schubert (godson), Rev. Robert Werth, and niece Marilyn Schubert Whoolery, and other loving great-nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

Viewing will be from 2-6pm Sunday December 27, Sinatra Memorial Home, 499 Yonkers Ave, Yonkers. (914-963-5263)

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10am, Monday December 28, Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, Park Hill, Yonkers.

Interment/Burial to take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested for St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
