Augustine M. Conti
(2/13/1927 - 12/18/2020)
Augustine M. Conti, 93, a lifelong resident of Yonkers, NY, passed into eternal life on December 18, 2020. Gus, as many called him, attended the Yonkers Public Schools, graduating in 1945 with a math and science background from Saunders Trades & Technical High School. Shortly after graduation, Gus honorably served his country in the medical corps of the U.S. Army during World War II. He received the Army of Occupation Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. After his discharge in 1947, he attended The School of Pharmacy at his beloved Fordham University, graduating in 1951. He greatly enjoyed his chosen profession as a registered pharmacist for 54 years. Gus retired at age 80 and was still wearing his Fordham Cap well into his 90's! In June 1954, he married Joan W. Conti (nee Kar). She was his loving wife for 41 years until she passed into eternal life in 1995. Augustine was a devout Catholic and parishioner of Christ the King Church in Yonkers for 60 years, at one time serving on the parish council. An intelligent person, Gus was an avid reader who enjoyed frequenting the library and learning new things. He also took pleasure from gardening at home. In retirement, he liked strolling his Christ the King neighborhood, visiting and conversing with friends. Augie, as his family called him, is survived by his two loving children Michael Conti of Point Lookout, NY and Marie Conti of Yonkers, two sisters, Catherine Qualters of PA and Mary Wells of TX, two grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Francis and his parents Bartholomew and Madeline, all formerly of Yonkers. The family appreciates friends and loved ones keeping Augustine in their thoughts and prayers. Regrettably, due to the pandemic there were no public services at this time. A memorial service will be held in the future. A private Internment took place at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hastings-on-Hudson, NY. Remembrance donations can be made in his name to Fordham University or Christ the King Parish.
