Margaret Teixeira ("Tex"), a lifelong resident of Mt. Kisco, died peacefully January 24, 2021, with family at her side. She was 86 years old. Born to Antonio and Marie Teixeira in Millwood on July 31, 1934, Margaret attended St. Francis of Assisi elementary school in Mt. Kisco and St. Mary's high school in Katonah. She later graduated from the Cochran School of Nursing. She was dedicated to the nursing profession, working at the NYC Foundling Hospital for three years and as a nurse at Phelps Memorial Hospital for an amazing 64 years. Her last nursing position was as Senior Certified Surgical Technologist, assisting the surgeon of ophthalmology at Phelps. She enjoyed her work and treasured the friendships she made at Phelps.
A devoted parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Mt. Kisco, Margaret served over the years as Parish Council member, Altar Server, Eucharistic Minister, Religious Education Teacher, and member of the church's Contemporary Choir. She loved her parish family and took pride in helping with many activities, including decorating the church at Christmas and closing the chapel each night.
Margaret loved to travel, especially to Portugal and Brazil, where she would spend time with family and enjoy the beach. Back home, a favorite day trip was always a drive to Teixeira's Bakery in New Jersey. She was also an avid reader. In her spare time, she could be found walking, watching Jeopardy or sports, and helping people in any number of ways. She enjoyed the company of family and many friends.
Survived by nephews Paul Teixeira, Mark Hawley, Matthew (Julie) Hawley, and niece Gail (John) Conneely, as well as great-niece Alexis Hawley and great-nephews Liam Hawley, Christian and Nickolas Teixeira. Pre-deceased by her parents, brother Manuel Teixeira, and sister Louise Hawley. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, January 29, at 10:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Mt. Kisco. Interment at St. Francis Cemetery.
