Obituary of Antonio Del Vecchio

Please share a memory of Antonio to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Antonio Del Vecchio, age 78, passed away in the early morning hours of January 25, 2021, after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer, surrounded by his loving family. Antonio was born to Maddalena Del Vecchio (Delli Carpini) and Pietro Del Vecchio on March 29, 1942, in Gallo Matese, Reggio Campania, Italy. One of 3 children, and being the only boy of the family, he grew up having the true meaning of hard work and perseverance instilled in him. Antonio married the love of his life, Elisa Del Vecchio (Chiodi) on May 30, 1966. Almost a year later, in January of 1967, they would set off for a new life in the United States of America, ready to establish their growing family. In the U.S., Antonio and Elisa first called the Bronx, NY, "Little Italy" to be exact, home. They went on to raise their 3 daughters, Maddalena, Maria, and Angela there as well, before moving to Yonkers, NY, in 1983. In his early years here, Antonio worked various jobs, one of the proudest being helping his brother-in-law, Giovanni Chiodi, owner and operator of "John and Tony's Pizzeria" on First Avenue in New York City. He eventually joined the Local 580 Iron Workers Union, and had the opportunity to work on Lady Liberty's torch, a true symbol of the "American Dream." Antonio eventually joined the International Union of Operating Engineers, local 15D, through the Department of Sanitation in New York City, where he spent the rest of his career until his retirement. Above all, Antonio loved to offer help to everyone—no matter how big or how small of a task someone needed assistance with, he was always there to lend a hand. His presence was larger than life, and his advice and wisdom were unparalleled. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Antonio is predeceased by his mother, Maddalena, his father, Pietro, and his sister Maria Boianelli. Indisputably, Antonio was the most wonderful brother, husband, father, and grandfather. Antonio is survived by his wonderful and loving wife of 53 years, Elisa Del Vecchio, sister Domenica (Angela) Rocchio, daughters Maddalena Galati, Maria Santobello, and Angela Del Vecchio, son-in-laws Robert and Guy, and grandchildren Elisa-Marie, Gabriella, Vincent, Matteo, and Anthony. His memory and legacy will live on through them, the family he built. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 29th from 3pm-7pm, at Sinatra Memorial Home, 499 Yonkers Avenue, Yonkers, NY 10704. The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, January 30th at 10:00am at St. Eugene's Church at 31 Massitoa Road, Yonkers, NY 10710. Antonio's family asks that donations be made to the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, so that the search for a cure can continue on in his memory, in lieu of flowers. Checks can be made out to: The Lustgarten Foundation 415 Crossways Park Drive Suite D Woodbury, NY 11797 Online donations can be made at: https://lustgarten.org/donate/ *Please write "In Memory of Antonio Del Vecchio" when making all donations*
