Christopher ("Chris") S. Marlow, 61, of Mt. Vernon, NY, died on Monday, March 15, 2021, at Westchester Medical Center, Valhalla, NY, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his father, Thomas, and his brothers and sisters, Tom (Maureen), John (Patty), Kelly Marlow Hunt, and Liz Marlow Barbarita (Roy); and nine nieces and nephews: Sarah Marlow, Cody Marlow, Melissa Feirstein, James Marlow, Jake Marlow, Ryan Marlow, Connor Marlow, Marlo Barbarita, and Catherine Hunt. Chris is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Rob Feirstein and Mark Hunt, and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Catherine Kelly Marlow, and his sister, Mary Ann Marlow Feirstein.
Born in 1959 in Inwood, Manhattan, Chris lived there for 13 years, after which he moved with his family to Kingsbridge, the Bronx, where he lived until moving to Mt. Vernon in 1990. He graduated from St. Jude's Grammar School, Inwood, and Christopher Columbus High School, the Bronx. He worked for over 30 years as a security officer at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, retiring in 2017 as Senior Special Officer.
Known for his kindness and generosity, Chris was always there for his friends, who had become his second family. One of his friends, Jamie Merrill, sums up his memories:
"I got no witty toasts, no quotable comments. Some of the best years of my life were spent with you cutting it up and having fun. That's where I'll choose to go when I think of ya. Til we can raise a glass together once again, rest easy my brother. You will be missed."
Chris was a loyal fan of the New York Mets, New York Giants, and the University of Notre Dame football team, often traveling to see them play throughout the country. He loved the Irish bands the Saw Doctors and Shilelagh Law and was proud to be one of the "boys from the Bronx" made infamous in Shilelagh Law's song "Meet Me on McLean." He also had the luck of the Irish when visiting his favorite casinos in the northeast and Las Vegas.
In lieu of sending flowers, Chris's family asks you to raise a glass in his memory at your favorite neighborhood pub—and to tip the bartender well, like Chris always did.
