Obituary of Jerome A. Herlihy

Jerome A. Herlihy (Jerry), 83, of Katonah passed away peacefully on March 24 surrounded by his family. Born May 17, 1937 in Yonkers, NY, Jerry was the son of the late Frank and Dorothy (Allen) Herlihy and the loving husband of Nancy J. (Amuso) Herlihy, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.

Jerry graduated from White Plains High School in 1956. He was employed as a patrolman by the Village of Mt. Kisco Police Department in 1960, became a youth officer in 1969, detective in 1971, detective sergeant in 1973 and chief in 1980 until his retirement in 1984. After retirement Jerry carried out numerous other employment opportunities.

Jerry, always the voice of wisdom, was an avid reader, nature lover, history buff, amateur artist, model car collector and proud maintainer of his enviable plush, green lawn. He volunteered his time at Westchester County Medical Center working with fellow heart patients.

Jerry loved nothing more than spending time with his family and enjoyed countless birthdays and holidays together. He often cheered on his grandchildren at sporting events and sat proudly in the audience during their theater and musical performances. Jerry cherished many family vacations at the Jersey shore and loved spending time by the ocean. He will be greatly missed by all those who were lucky enough to have known him.

Jerry's family was by far the most important thing in his life. In addition to his beloved wife, Nancy, he is survived by his four children, Denise Herlihy Doherty (Ronan), Lori Herlihy O'Connor (Shaun), Brian Herlihy (Gina) and Michelle Herlihy Roth (Christopher); nine loving grandchildren, Ryan and Cole Doherty; Faith and Matthew Stout; Christian and Olivia Herlihy; and Caitlin, Kelly and Taylor Roth; along with many loving nephews, nieces and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Dorothy Herlihy and sister, Lorraine Modena.

Visitation will be held on March 28, from 2:00 – 6:00pm at Oelker-Cox & Sinatra Funeral Home – 262 E. Main St, Mt. Kisco, NY. Funeral services for Jerry will be held at 10:00am on March 29 at St. Francis of Assisi - 2 Green St, Mt. Kisco, NY. Jerry will be laid to rest at St. Francis Cemetery in Mt. Kisco, NY.
