Obituary of Dorothy M. Oliva

Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dorothy "Dotti" Marie Oliva was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world suddenly on June 20, 2021. Her family was lucky enough to have celebrated her 90th birthday on June 16th. I was Nanas first granddaughter, so I feel it is my duty to write these few lines in her honor. She would have approved or even given this task to me herself if she could, just to be sure it's done properly. Dotti was a kind, happy person, with a great sense of humor and also stubborn in defending her own opinions. She was a great housewife, and a devoted wife and mother, and above all, a loving Nana. I got to spend a lot of one on one time with my Nana especially the last few years, she loved to tell me stories of when she was my age. She lit up and had a sparkle in her eyes when she would reminisce. I can honestly say she had three major loves in her life. She absolutely adored her Husband Frank, not a day would go by without her telling me about their love story and how much she loved her wedding dress and how she wished she saved it for me. She would tell me how he would come home from work and have unexpected surprises or leave her little notes. She never regretted anything, always saying my grandfather was her whole world, it was either my grandfather or nobody! The other two loves are her sons. She would constantly bragged about how lucky and proud she was of them. Her boys did everything for their mother. No matter who we were talking to knew about her sons! Joe, her first born made sure his Mother was cared for after his father passed, she knew she could rely on him for ANYTHING. She bragged about how loving and kind he is and how he puts family above everything, she always instilled strong family values and you can see she did an amazing job, I'm beyond blesses to have the best father in the world and no amount of words or thanks was ever enough to tell Nana how lucky I am that she raised him. Family values she instilled will live on for generations. Her second son Billy is a chef and EVERYONE knew, she made sure it was known every time he was on a TV program for some amazing food. she bragged about meals he would cook and how she would feel like a movie star each time she would visit him at work, and how amazing it was but her feisty self always made sure everyone knew he learned to cook from her. She had a very special bond with Billy and she was grateful for all the special and sometime headache filled memories. Nana loved holidays and family get-togethers; any chance to spend time with her family was important to her. She would spend hours cooking and preparing for her company, not a Christmas would go by with her making Lasagna. She had a passion for ice cream, lasagna, and anything dipped in chocolate, Nana was always known for having a big sweet tooth, and this is something she passed on to her Grandchildren. She was known for her feisty, yet good sense of humor. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her. I know our Dotti is up there somewhere with Grandpa Frank, keeping an eye on all of us and waiting for us to meet in Heaven, when our time comes. Now I'd like to thank you for coming here today, she would appreciate that, being such a sociable as well as a family person her whole life. She would be so happy to see all of us gathered together in these hard and sad times, comforting each other, and remembering her. From all my heart, thank you all In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation.
