Maria Carmela Giannantonio (nee) Massa) passed away peacefully at Andrus Nursing Home on August 13, 2021.
Maria was born on April 13, 1933, in Pietraferrazzana, Province of Chieti, Italy. She emigrated to the United States at the age of 23.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Nicholas Giannantonio.
Maria is survived by her sister Angelina Viggiano, her brother Eduardo Massa and her three children, Joseph, Anthony, and James.
Maria settled in Yonkers, NY where she would meet the love of her life Nicholas. They remained happily married until his death in 2012. Maria and Nicholas remained in Yonkers where they lived and raised their three children.
She is lovingly remembered by her sister, brother, and three children as well as her daughters-in-law (Karen and Barbara), and her 5 grandchildren (Dara, Brett, Nikki, Vincent, and Nicholas).
Maria and Nicholas dedicated their life to the care and support of her children. They had one goal and that was to assure that each of their children would be provided with a loving household where each could grow and learn. They spared nothing in order to assure that each were given the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to achieve their individual goals.
Maria worked as a seamstress and later as a cafeteria worker for Yonkers Public Schools. She did not work for several years after the birth of her son Anthony. Anthony was born with cerebral palsy and developmental disabilities. It became her mission to do whatever was necessary to provide him with the loving care, supervision, education, and specialized resources he would require.
Visitation will be held at SINATRA MEMORIAL HOME located at 499 Yonkers Avenue
on Sunday August 15 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM.
Funeral Service will be MOUNT CARMEL CHURCH on Park Hill Avenue on Monday August 16 at 10:00 AM.
Interment to follow at SAINT JOSEPH'S CEMETARY on 209 Truman Ave in
Yonkers, NY.
