Obituary of Lois Meyers
Please share a memory of Lois to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lois Meyers, affectionately called Bobby, peacefully departed this life on September 11, 2021 at home with her two daughters at her side. Lois is the daughter of the late Arthur Williams & Effie Butler. She was born on February 28, 1927 in the state of Georgia. Lois grew up in Florala, Alabama where she started her Christian journey at the age of 9 under the leadership of Rev. Henry Rollins and was baptized at Bethel A.M.E. Church. She served as President of the Young People Department, secretary of the usher board, secretary of Christian endeavor league, and also attended Sunday School.
In 1946 she moved to Mount Kisco, NY and joined St. Francis A.M.E. Zion Church under the leadership of Rev. Samson Green. Lois hit the ground running, she began serving on the usher board and steward board. Little did she know that she would become the President of Usher Board for over 30 years, as well as become a class leader, the secretary of WHO&M, and remain on the steward board for so long that she and her granddaughter would serve together. Lois also served as Chairperson of Instructors of the Ushers Assembly Counsel for 20 years, President of the Westchester District Home Missions, as well as served 5 years as the NYAC Home Missions President. Even after her tenure of President she continued to assist and serve.
Lois was a homemaker, had her own catering business and in her younger days a foster mother. She had a big heart and intentionally lived her life to reach as many people as possible. Not only did Lois raise her two daughters, but had a hand in raising her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lois also adopted Norris Rushing and Carzel Rushing as her sons, as well Susan Mallard and Maurine Johnson as daughters
Lois Meyers was well known for her rolls and cakes. Whenever attending an Annual Conference, or a Leadership Training Institute you could be sure to find Lois Meyers with some fried chicken, homemade rolls and some pound cake to share with those around. She always had a kind word and a smile for people, but don't cross her, or she would get that rumbumbosity! Lois made sure that she would send care packages (head cheese, pound cake and homemade rolls) to her family and friends that lived out of state. Even as she got older, if she was unable to do the cooking, she still made sure that Anne got in that kitchen to get her packages out on time. She loved life, family and above all God.
Lois Meyers is pre-deceased by her husbands Spuirel Louis Williams and Alfred David Meyers, and brother Edward Henry Williams. She is survived by one sister Doris McDade, two daughters Anne Rushing (Norris) and Monique Meyers (Benito), five grandchildren: Eric Rushing (Daisy), Andrea Rushing, Nicole Rushing, Daryl Rushing (Khara di), and Christopher Rushing (Yamile), seventeen great-grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter, as well nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
