Daniel Parker, of Mount Kisco, passed away peacefully at his home on September 25, after a battle with dementia. He was 83. He was lovingly cared for by his wife, Dorothy (Pocze) Parker, whom he was married to for 58 years. He was the son of the late Patrick and Catherine (Kelly) Parker of Manhattan, born on June 7, 1938. After attending Cardinal Hayes High School in The Bronx, Daniel attended Iona College and obtained a Master's degree in History at Columbia University. He enjoyed a long and fulfilling career with the Federal government, working in personnel management and training within the New York offices of the Internal Revenue Service, the Civil Service Commission, the Defense Logistics Agency, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC). Daniel enlisted in the National Guard in 1962, completing 6 years, and later joined the Coast Guard serving an additional 16 years in the reserves. He was an avid reader and had an insatiable appetite for knowledge. He enjoyed historical non-fiction and biographies. He also took pleasure in watching the Yankees, attending Broadway musicals and plays, listening to music of the big-band era, and attending all of his grandchildren's school and sports events. Daniel always enjoyed gathering with friends and relatives. Daniel will be remembered for his integrity and character, and as a benevolent friend to all. He was a peaceful man known for his ability to connect with others through his storytelling and his generous and thoughtful nature. He enjoyed organizing events and composing newsletters for his large network of retired colleagues. He cared deeply about his community and political state. He embodied an incredible sense of family. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and will be missed by his family that holds his memory close. In addition to his wife, Dorothy, Daniel is survived by two children - Tim and wife Denise, Jill and husband Anthony Perry, and 5 grandchildren - Zach, Danny, and Anthony James (AJ) Perry, and Tim and Alyson Parker. He was predeceased by a young son, Jamie. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, September 29 from 4pm-8pm at the Oelker-Cox Sinatra Funeral Home, 262 E. Main Street, Mount Kisco, NY. A funeral service will take place on Thursday, September 30 at 10am at Saint Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 117 Valley Road, Katonah, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Iona College (iona.edu/support-iona) in honor of Daniel Parker '61.
