Obituary of Nettie L. Bera
Please share a memory of Nettie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Nettie passed away peacefully in her home on October 29, 2021. She was born February 25, 1923 in Yonkers to Vito and Giovannina (Grilli) Pistone.
Nettie is survived by her older sister Margaret Pistone; her daughters Jennifer and her husband Larry Dugan, Janice and her husband Thomas Lavaia; her grandchildren, Janine and John Notaro and Larry Dugan and his wife Erica; great grandchildren Jack and Max Meaney, Ryan and Juliana Dugan.
She was predeceased by her parents and brother Pat Pistone whom she missed dearly.
Nettie worked for the Westchester County Department of Social Services for 25 years. She retired in the year 2000.
In her younger years she went to many baseball games at Yankee Stadium. She loved listening to Frank Sinatra and even attended live performances at the Paramount Theater in NewYork City.
Anyone that knew Nettie, knew that getting her hair done was a weekly ritual. Hence, the name “Big Red”.
When her grandchildren were born they became the loves of her life. She enjoyed babysitting, taking them to the circus every February, barbecues in the yard and just being Nana!
When her great-grandchildren were born she beamed with pride . As she got older and less mobile she insisted on knowing the weekly updates of Jack, Ryan,Juliana and Max. She would ask about their school day and sports. She loved when they would visit and with her overwhelming generosity they always left with a few extra bucks in their pocket.
Four years ago she became “Nana” once again to her amazing caregivers: Lenny, Nino, Mariam, Natia, Teri, baby Nana and Bela.
In July of this year she was blessed with the girls who cared for her unconditionally until her passing - Elana, Donna, Crisel and Sharrone. These angels were sent from heaven to care for our mom.
A special thank you to her personal hairdressers, Inez and Tina, who kept her beautiful up until weeks before her passing.
Rest In Peace Big Red…..we love you!
