Obituary of Johnnie Mildred Harrison
Please share a memory of Johnnie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Johnnie Mildred Harrison was born May 24, 1930, the second oldest of five children born to Benjamin Franklin Harrison and Mamie Carr-Harrisonin Wilson, North Carolina. She transitioned peacefully to her heavenly home on November 14th, 2021, surrounded by her family.
She enjoyed her role as a big sister to her two younger brothers (Raymond and James) and her baby sister (Louise) who she helped raise, thus the beginning of the name Sister, which she was affectionately called by all who met her for the rest of her life.
Sister was educated in the public schools in Wilson, North Carolina. She graduated from C.H. Darden High School. Sister relocated to Mt. Vernon, New York in the late 1960's. Sister was an excellent cook and baker. She always had an interest in cooking, which lead her to enroll at Saunders Technical School in Yonkers, NY to enhance her culinary skills. She later went on to work for Personalized Home Care asa Home Health Aid and was loved by all her patients. She worked until 72 years old.
Sister was baptized in the Mount Vernon Church of Christ, where she remained a faithful member until her health started to decline. Even when she was not able to actively participate in church events, she faithfully read her bible and always wanted to know the details of what was going on and how other parishioners were doing. She was very much loved by her church family.
Sister also loved to travel with family and friends and especially LOVED her trips to Vermont and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Sister's quirky or wicked sense of humor was at the same time amusing butcould be serious. She was so much fun to be around. She could be the life of the party and at the same time the ultimate observer. She loved to get dressed up for any event, meticulously getting her makeup just right, after which she stood in front of the mirror admiring herself. She also liked to have her nails polished. Her favorite color was RED.
Sister was happiest when around members of the family, especially the younger ones, because they amused each other. She is cherished and will be missed by many.
Sister was preceded in death by her parents Benjamin Franklin Harrison, Sr. andMamie Carr-Harrison; two brothers: Frank, Jr. and Raymond.
