Obituary of Michele McNally
Please share a memory of Michele to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Michele A. McNally passed away February 18,2022, at a local hospital after a brief illness at 66 years old. She is survived by her sister, Jody Porrazzo PhD, and her 2 daughters, Caitlin and Claire. She also had 3 grandchildren who loved their 'Mimi.'
Michele was born in Brooklyn, NY and spent her childhood growing up there. She attended Queens College and after a few other brief jobs, she began working as Picture Editor at Fortune Magazine in 1986 where her career began to flourish. She stayed at Fortune for 18 years before moving to the New York Times and becoming Assistant Managing Editor. The Times said when she retired in 2018, that "during [Michele McNally's] tenure as photo editor, The Times has won more Pulitzers, Polks, Emmys, OPCs, duPonts and other awards for photography than most news organizations have won for their entire reports." She had a deep love and boundless passion for her work and her family. Since her retirement she spent her time enjoying her family and her home by the Hudson.
She will be deeply missed by many. The family will hold a small memorial at a family home in Bergen County, NJ. Friends are invited and may call 570-561-3697 or email mcnallyfamily22@gmail.com, for details.
The family also asks that in lieu of flowers that donations to St. Jude Children's Hospital be made in her memory.
