Obituary of Maria Rosa Fragoso

Maria Rosa Fragoso, age 96, of Yonkers, NY died peacefully on Monday, January 16, 2023. Maria Rosa was born August 29, 1926 in Mogadouro da Serra, Portugal. At a very young age she became a farmer helping her parents in the farming community. She was a happy child who enjoyed dancing and singing. She married her husband Avelino in Portugal and then emigrated to America. Maria Rosa settled in Yonkers where she started as a seamstress followed by a long tenure at St. John's Hospital in Yonkers. There she advanced to surgical technician preparing instruments for surgery. She also was a former member of the Portuguese American Club. She is survived by her son Octavio Fragoso, daughter-in-law, Joyce Fragoso, her grandchildren and son-in-law's, Jessica and Eric Keener, Melissa and Derick Pantoja, Kimberly and Michael Tocci, and great grandchildren Lilliana May Pantoja, Camilla Rose Pantoja, Bella Love Keener, and Avelina Tocci. She is also survived by her sister, Angelina Brizido, and niece Judy Brizido. Her husband, Avelino, passed in 2016. Friends may call on Friday 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sinatra Memorial Home, Inc., 499 Yonkers Ave., Yonkers, NY. The funeral mass will be Saturday at 10:00 AM at St. Bartholomew's Church, 15 Palmer Rd., Yonkers. Interment to follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hastings-on-Hudson.
