Obituary of Barbara Autero

Barbara Autero, of Hartsdale, died peacefully on January 23, 2023 at the age of 86 surrounded by her family in Yonkers. Born on March 6, 1936 to John and Gertrude Gladis, she was until recently a life-long resident of Yonkers, where she graduated from Commerce High School and worked in various positions before meeting her future husband, Joseph "Joe" Autero, who survives her. She married the love of her life at St. Anthony's Church in Yonkers on September 2, 1956 and together raised a family in Yonkers. Barbara returned to work when her children were grown and for several years worked as a waitress on Lake Avenue in North Yonkers. In addition to her husband, Barbara is survived by her loving daughter, Joanne Autero-Smith (Gary), her devoted son Rocco, and her sister Ann. She is predeceased by her brother, Joseph, and her parents. Barbara loved life, a good laugh and the company of friends and family. She enjoyed many day trips to Atlantic City and vacations to the Bahamas, Las Vegas and other places with Joe. Barbara was also a great lover of all animals and will be missed especially by her tortie cat Violet, who adored her. Prior to Violet, Barbara had a calico cat, Amber, whom she loved until her passing in 2018. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ASPCA in Barbara's memory. Friends may call at the Sinatra Memorial Home, 499 Yonkers Ave on Thursday from 3-7 pm. A Prayer Service will be held at Sinatra Memorial Home on Friday at 10 am, followed by burial at St. Mary's Cemetery, Sprain Road, Yonkers at 11 am.
