Obituary of Dorothy J. Lander

Dorothy J. Lander of Armonk, NY, passed away on February 8, 2023 at the age of 93. She was born on April 20, 1929 to Marion A. & Ralph Miller Lander. Dorothy received her bachelors degree with honors in English from New York University & her MLS in Library Science from Simmons College in Boston, MA. She worked at various libraries until appointed as Director of Ossining Public Library in 1966 where she worked until 1992. An amateur painter, better known for her love of horticulture and gardening, she also obtained several certificates in 1991 from School of Horticulture, New York Botanical Gardens, Bronx, NY. After retiring from Ossining Public Library in 1992 she was appointed librarian of the Horticultural Library, Lasdon Park & Arboretum in Somers, NY, by former parks commissioner, Stanley Elkins where she also served on the board of trustees, Friends of Lasdon Park & Arboretum. Dorothy is predeceased by her parents, Marion & Ralph Miller Lander & her sister, Janice M. Garrett. Survived by her nephews, Charles H. & Paul R. Garrett, all of North Babylon, Long Island. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 13, 2023 from 4:00 PM-8:00 PM. Church Service on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Armonk, NY at 2:00 PM followed by a burial at Middle Patent Cemetery.
