Jody without the ‘d’ is Joy - which is so much who she was and what she always aspired to when she wasn’t. We shared a love of yoga, hiking, program, and deep, honest conversation. Jody was a great listener and often connected dots I couldn’t see. I like to think I offered her the same. I did not know her long but I knew her well and I will carry her memory for the rest of my life. Peace to all those who knew, honored, and loved her.

So many memories and talks that we’ve had about religion, psychology, cooking, and her creativity in your placement of objects, especially on the table of the song circle. So warm and hospitable, and read a lot of the same books. Very honest and humble.

Deepest condolences and prayers to Jody's husband and family members...I was one of many Byram Hills HS '71 classmates who were delighted to see Jody at our mid-Sept. reunion event. As a member of BHHS71’s reunion organizing committee--and despite her ongoing health struggles--Jody insisted on attending the event, and even addressed classmates briefly with a heartfelt, honest perspective on her situation. She was upbeat and grateful, particularly for the many acts of kindness shown by friends, acquaintances and strangers alike in her time of need. Her outlook, courage and enthusiastic demeanor were a source of inspiration to all. She will be missed! -Matthew Gabel

I met Jody when I came out of "retirement" to start singing with people again, at Pleasantville Circle of Friends. Jody was so welcoming and made me feel appreciated and part of the scene. I loved her collaboration with Buddy Coughlin in PB&J where they had some wonderful songs and Jody's unique vocals made them extra special. Always one of my favorite people in our warm music world, we shared a love of music, pets, and God. Jody's presence will be so missed but she will ever be in our hearts.

So many memories of times spent in Far Rockaway with Jody and the rest of the Stokhamer family at Grandma’s house. And my brother David reminded be of when Jody and family visited us in Jersey and brother Michael, with Jodys help, set up fire crackers in cans and one went off and scared the heck out of Amy- as it should have! Q: What will you never forget about Jody? A: She had a wonderful way to look at anything with positivity and without judgment. She was always a great friend offering support and advice warm heartedly. Years ago Jody would meet me and my daughter Elena at McDonald’s, and Jody and I would talk as we watched Elena play.

I remember a special event Jody organized at Maryknoll --quite a few years ago--that I recall as creating serenity and a strong sense of fellowship. When I took up my own volunteer positions, I would think about how I could emulate the same kind of feeling. Jody was passionate about fellowship and refraining from issues that could divide a group.
