Richard James Furnari entered this world on November 27, 1945, and left it on March 2, 2023. He graduated from Mount Saint Michael Academy (Bronx, NY) in 1963. He attended Marist College from 1963 through 1966. While in high school and college, Richard directed and produced plays. When duty called during the Vietnam War, Richard enlisted in the US Air Force and served both in Fuchu, Japan, and at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska. While stationed in Japan, Richard tutored young Japanese students in English and coached a youth baseball league. While serving his country, Richard married his high school sweetheart Marie on October 21, 1967. She traveled with him to both Japan and Nebrasksa. Richard was honorably discharged from duty in May 1969. Richard worked as an analyst for the US Postal Service in Mount Vernon, NY, from 1972 to 2000. Richard enjoyed playing cribbage, pinochle, and Japanese pachinko and was a lifelong Yankee fan. Richard is survived by his loving wife Marie (née Mancini), his three children - Judith, Robert, and Christina, his sister JoAnn Joyce (née Furnari), his two grandsons - Hudson and Cole, and his two granddogs - Strudel and Bear. Mass of Christian burial will be held at Saint Mary's Church, 103 South Broadway, Yonkers, NY 10701 on March 7, 2023, at 10:30 am.
