Aunt Julie had a rare quality which combined sweetness of character and brightness of mind. In our last conversation she managed to comfort me yet to give me perspective. I believe we measure our lives not by the things we own or accomplish but by the people who will miss us. Indeed she will be missed by so many of us.
To my cousins Anthony, Thomas and Robert, along with their beloved wives Karen, Alessandra and Lisa, to all the grand children, I say one doesn’t actually become an adult when they move out, get a job or build a family of their own. We become adults when we lose our parents because we lose the very root root that allowed the crown of our tree to stand tall and catch on the wind.
But our parents also gave us wide wings to fly high and strong claws to get a firm grip on steep rocks. Their way was and is: “chin up and get on with it”! With courage, lightness, sense of humor and much, much, much love.
May you all face this loss in the same way and surround with it uncle Romeo, to whom my heart and thoughts go to, along with Aunt Grace for the loss of her beloved “little” sister.
