All who knew her would agree that Tina’s spirited nature was always present at family and friends gatherings. She would enjoy every minute and would always come up with something to make others laugh and have a good time.
This year Tina will celebrate her 90th birthday in heaven and just as she would have wanted we will be celebrating her beautiful and rich life on that very special day listening to some of her favorite music.
I can almost see her now…..

Tina savored every day of her life. She danced as she lived and lived as she danced without skipping a beat.
Her energy and spirit of tenacity fueled her to accomplish her dreams and to encourage others to follow their hearts with the same determination.
We miss our beautiful Tina but we are encouraged by the hope of seeing her again.
In the meantime, I know she is enjoying her reward in heaven and probably doing a little singing and dancing as well. We love you with all our heart.

When Tina met Jack Yurus at the church where he was a youth minister she told herself he would be the man to marry her daughter Marilyn……
After they were married Marilyn and Jack studied to become full time ministers and in time established a church in their community.
Tina was a longtime and faithful member of their congregation and she was loved dearly by all who knew her.

Tina’s first great-grandchild, Sophia Grace was born on May 9, 2010! What a grand Mother’s Day gift!
On January 23, 2016 Sophia got to meet her first brother, Thomas Joseph. Her second brother, Nicholas Edward was born the following year on May 17, 2017!
It was a blessing to see Tina so happy enjoying her great-grandkids.

Tina as a teacher through the years living out her passion. One of her favorite stories was about a young man who came to visit her school one day and told her, “Mrs Gutierrez you were once my teacher”. It made her very happy.

Inspired by her love for teaching and determined to teach again, Tina studied to learn English. Later she enrolled at Mercy College where she received a Degree in Bachelor of Science in 1975, followed by two Master’s Degrees in Education and Language from Long Island University. Her dream was fulfilled when she worked as an elementary school teacher for the New York State Education Department in New York City for over twenty five years.

Tina’s mom, Ernestina Perez and dad, Benito Diaz. Tina was only a few years old when she lost her dad due to a short illness. Her godfather would often speak to her of how much her dad loved her. Tina’s mom passed away in 2001.

Q: What was one of your favorite qualities of Ernestina?
A: My Tia Mima was grand! She made grand entrances and loved with grand love.
My earliest memory is her dressing up as Santa, so I’m told, because I was so convinced that I hid under the table as she walked around looking for me.
My fondest memories are how she always reminded me - more like pronouncements - that she was my godmother and I was her godson. She seemed proud of that unique aspect to our relationship and she often reminded my oldest daughter, as well

A: My Sister in Christ,
I didn't know you exremely well but well enough to know that you were a beautiful daughter of God. I was always inspired my your steadfast love for the things of Christ and how you were a consistent part of Calvary Center Church. I knew that when I would enter on Sunday, I would always see you faithfully abiding in your front left seating area, faithfully praising the Lord, which encouraged me to do the same. I also admired your dedication to serving as a wonderful teacher of God's little ones.
God has gained a beautiful daughter into His kingdom and we all strive to see you again.
