Obituary of Joseph M. Gresia

Joseph M. Gresia died peacefully Tuesday August 1, 2023 after a battle with renal cancer at the age of 85, surrounded by his wife, children and spouses, and grandchildren. Joe was born in Italy in 1938 in a small town called San Chirico Raparo in the province of Potenza in Basilicata and was one of 8 children. He married the love of his life, Anna, who was also born and raised in San Chirico Raparo, and immigrated to the US in 1964 after marrying in Italy in 1963. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in July. He was trained in the art of tailoring and had a successful shop in NYC with another accomplished tailor. Their work was recognized by FIT and they each were offered teaching positions, Joe teaching a course in basic men's tailoring. After retiring, he spent time traveling with his wife, and spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren. In addition to the love of family, he enjoyed cooking, soccer and opera. Joe is survived by his wife Anna, three children Joseph (and Karen), John (and Rosalie) and Candy (and Ennio) Bruno and seven grandchildren Krista and Lauren (Joseph); John, Matthew and Joseph (John); and Joseph and Amanda (Candy). In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to St Jude's Children Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will occur Friday, August 4, 2023 at 10.30 AM at Immaculate Conception Church (53 Winter Hill Rd, Tuckahoe, NY) with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx.
