Karl Leon Hurowitz died peacefully on August 9, 2023 at The New York State Veterans Home in Montrose, New York. He was 81 years old He was born in Lynn Massachusetts, March 1, 1942 In 1960 he graduated from Anacostia High School in Washington DC Karl joined the Air Force after high school and served 4 years as a loadmaster based in Japan and was honorably discharged in 1964. Following his service he worked for Flying Tiger Airline as a loadmaster based in Saigon ferrying supplies and troops in and out of Vietnam. Following a debilitating accident while employed by Flying Tiger Airline he returned home to Chicago to recover. He moved to Mount Kisco, New York in 1974 with his family and was employed by the Hearst Corporation as Director of Book Sales Development until 1984. He also worked for Stein and Day Publishing Company in Briarcliff Manor as National Sales Manager. In 1991 he was employed as an independent salesman for Adhisa USA, of Madrid, Spain in high end picture frame moulding. He worked twenty years in this industry. He was lastly employed by Armonk Limousine until his retirement in 2013.
Karl is survived by his wife Mary of 52 years and son Joel Hurowitz (Tanya) and grandsons Evan and Luke of Stony Brook, New York and son Mark Hurowitz of Ft Collins, Colorado. A brother David Hurowitz(Donna) of San Francisco, California, sister Linda White( Stuart) The Villages, Florida, sister Gwen Cummings(Jon), Ventura, California. Predeceased by sister Marilyn Hurowitz.
A service of remembrance is planned for September 23 at 11:00 at The Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 15 South Bedford Road, Mount Kisco, New York In lieu of flowers consider a donation in his memory to The Mount Kisco Interfaith Food Pantry 300 Main Street, Mount Kisco, NY 10549.
