Please share a memory of Josephine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
In Loving Memory It is with great sorrow and bittersweet gratitude to announce the passing of Josephine DeGeorge, beloved mother, grandmother, and aunt, who passed away peacefully on September 29th, 2023. For 97 years, she was a beacon of love, kindness, and wisdom to all who knew her. Josephine was born on March 14th, 1926 to Italian immigrants, Louis and Maria Vuolo. She lived in New York her entire life, residing in her home in the Bronx for 68 years. She graduated from James Monroe High School and worked as a secretary until she started a family in 1954. She was a dedicated caregiver to her parents and in-laws, Rosario and Maria DiGiorgio, for many years. She returned to her career later in life and took great pride in her job as a secretary at Montefiore Dental Clinic until retirement 1988. At the age of 23, Josephine married the love of her life, Frank DeGeorge. They enjoyed dancing together and were the "couple to watch" on the dance floor. They raised 2 children and celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 1999. Josephine remained lovingly devoted to Frank for 54 years of marriage until his passing in 2003. She most enjoyed spending Sundays and holidays with her family. She exemplified the saying, "La Famiglia e Tutto" – family is everything – and instilled these values in her loved ones. Josephine was the matriarch of her Italian family and took great pride in sharing traditions like cooking her famous Christmas sauce and lasagna – a tradition that will be passed down for generations to come. Her family will fondly remember meals around the dinner table spent laughing, singing, and sharing stories. Josephine nurtured others with her unwavering love, compassion, and empathy. She had a lighthearted, witty sense of humor, and was admired for her resilience and strength. Her warm smile and gentle spirit touched the lives of countless others, even in her final days. Josephine was predeceased by her adoring husband Frank, her brother Frank Vola, and many close relatives and friends. Affectionately known as Jo or Josie, she is survived by her devoted children Paul DeGeorge (daughter-in-law Sharon) and Maria Weyrauch (husband Robert), and niece Helen Quinn (husband Tom). Her legacy lives on in her "4 treasures," granddaughters Alyssa DeGeorge (husband Matt), Briana DeGeorge (husband Emmanual), Elizabeth Reiss (husband Frank) and Katelyn Schunkewitz (husband Graydon). She cherished her role as a great-grandmother to Salvatore DeGeorge, Alessio DeGeorge Santana, Luna Winslow, and Quinn, Cullen, and Emerson Reiss. In her honor, we celebrate a life beautifully lived, a legacy that will continue to inspire us. Though she may no longer be with us, her love will forever remain in our hearts. As we mourn her passing, let us also remember the wonderful moments we shared and lessons she imparted. May her sweet soul rest in peace, and may her spirit guide us through the difficult days ahead. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
