Obituary of Roger M. Davis

Roger M. Davis of Valhalla past away early Saturday morning, April 17, 2010. He was 94 years old. Roger was the father of John Davis (deceased), Richard Davis of Chantilly, Virginia, Douglas Davis of Valhalla, NY, and Donna Knox of Cross River, New York. Roger was also grandfather to Katelyn, Ronald, Colin, Raegan, and Courtney.
Roger was born on November 25, 1915 in White Plains New York, son of Mary and Edward Davis. His family heritage on his father's side can be traced back to the arrival of the Pilgrims at Plymouth Rock Massachusetts. As a youngster Roger lived for a time in White Plains and then moved to Pleasantville, where he graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1933.
After high school Roger worked as beat writer and sports write for various local area newspapers. Roger went into the Army Air Corp soon after the start of World War II. While in the Army Air Corp he was an fighter pilot instructor. Roger was honorably discharged from service at wars end.
In April of 1952, Roger married Marion Hair of Mount Kisco, New York. After being married, they lived for a time on Grant Street in White Plains renting the upper floor of a two family home. John Davis, their oldest son was in May 1953. Shortly after John's birth, Marion and Roger bought a house in Valhalla, New York where Roger lived the remainder of his life.
In his free time Roger listened to and watched Opera and spent many hours at work on his novels. Excerpts of his most recently published novel, The Adventures of Leroy Bridges, about life during the Great Depression, can be found in The Examiner.
A viewing will be held at the Oelker & Cox funeral home in Mount Kisco New York, today, Monday, April 19th from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at the Holy Name of Jesus Church in Valhalla.
