Elizabeth J. Dengler
Elizabeth ( Betty) Dengler passed away on Holy Thursday, March 28, 2024. She was born in the Yorkville section of Manhattan on June 30, 1929 to Elizabeth W. Dengler. Betty loved living with her family and extended family in her Upper East Side neighborhood. She was a proud member of St. Joseph's parish and a graduate of St. Joseph's grammar school. She went on to graduate from St. Jean the Baptiste High School and then continued on to attend Misericordia School of Nursing and graduated in 1950. One of her first jobs after Graduation was as a bedside nurse at Mt Sinai Hospital in Manhattan. She later accepted a position with Misericordia Hospital as both a nurse and an instructor at the School of Nursing. During her long career at Misericordia, she served the hospital as a nurse in the Pediatric unit, Pediatric Supervisor, Head Nurse, Nursing Supervisor, Associate Director and Nursing Director. She was a member of The National Distinguished Service Registry in Nursing and was listed in the 1st edition of "Who's Who Among Contemporary Nurses". Betty went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree from NYU, and a Master's Degree from St. John's University. She later became Director of Nursing at Union Hospital in the Bronx and Sarah Neuman Nursing Home in Mamaroneck. Betty was an avid swimmer. She loved travel and spending time with her good friends and family. She was a devout Catholic and long-time member of St Barnabas Church in the Bronx, as well as serving as Eucharistic Minister for many years there. Betty lead a life of service to others and left a strong, lasting, positive impact on all those who were blessed to have known her. Betty was pre-deceased by an infant sister, Mary, her mother Elizabeth, her beloved brother Joseph N. Dengler, Sister-in-law Mathilde (Pip) Dengler and her aunt Josephine Brach Schmeider. She is also pre-deceased by her long- lost brothers Paul L. Dengler and George P. Dengler both of New Jersey, and survived by her sister, Joan Dengler Placido of Maryland. A mass of Christian burial will take place at St. Barnabas Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday April 3, 2024 at 10:45 am.
