Carmela Rita Mucci passed away peacefully with close family by her side on the evening of April 3rd at Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington, NC. She was born on March 30, 1933, in Civitacampomarano, Campo Basso, Italy. Daughter of the late Joseph and Maria Cieri Iazurlo, she came with her family to the United States in 1947 and settled in Yonkers, NY.
Carmela worked as a seamstress for over 25 years at the Woodhaven Dress Co. in Yonkers. She was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church, Yonkers. After residing in Yonkers for 56 years, she moved to Sterling, Pennsylvania in 2003 to be with her daughter Louise, her husband, and their three children. She moved with her family to Burlington, North Carolina in summer of 2019.
Carmela found immense joy in gardening and spending time with family and friends especially after cooking them an authentic Italian meal. Carmela was an outstanding, hardworking, and selfless woman who loved her family deeply.
Carmela was proceeded in death by her husband, Louis G. Mucci and her loving parents. Carmela is survived by her son, Anthony Mucci, and wife Suellen; her daughter Louise Carolan and husband Ed; her five grandchildren: Andrew, Robyn, Joseph, Thomas, Stephanie and her two great-grandchildren: Nate and Frankie. Additional family members include her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Danny and Diane Mucci along with many nieces and nephews.
Family will receive visitors at the Sinatra Funeral Home, 499 Yonkers Avenue, Yonkers, NY on Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 3:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. A funeral service will be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Church on Friday, April 12, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the Ferncliff Mausoleum in Hartsdale, New York.
