Victor Miguel Romero R., a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2024, at the age of 89, surrounded by his children at St. Joseph's Hospital in Yonkers, N.Y.
Born on April 12, 1935, in the little mountain town of Azogues, Ecuador, Victor was the son of Maria Victoria Verduga and Victor Romero. Known affectionately by his family as "Papi Victor," his story began at 15 when he met his future wife, Esperanza Romero, on a street corner in Guayaquil, Ecuador. He knew immediately his future would be along Esperanza, leading to their marriage at 20 in 1955. Together, they built a beautiful family, blessed with 5 children, 11 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
Victor's journey to the United States began in 1969, paving the way for his wife and children to join him in Yonkers, NY, in 1970. For 35 dedicated years, he served as an OR assistant at St. Joseph's Hospital, leaving a positive impact on the institution he cared for.
Above all, Victor prioritized his family. He instilled in them the importance of their bond and cherished their time together, and loved to admire his family with Esperanza as they were the foundation of something great.
He was a man of simple pleasures. He cherished his Ecuadorian team Emelec, a cold beer, to serenate his wife Esperanza, his white sneakers that went with every outfit, to cook for his whole family and make sure everyone was well fed, a good laugh, trips to his family in Ecuador, a Sunday garage sale, and Christmas and Thanksgiving nights surrounded by his family. When it came to holidays Victor was known to give a familiar speech, in his speech he would sit at the head of the table where he admired his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, always thanking God for his blessing.
Victor's legacy extends beyond his love. He was known for his heartwarming holiday speeches delivered while seated at the head of the table. In these speeches, he expressed his gratitude to God and his immense love for his family. Every interaction, whether in person or over video calls, ended with his blessings – a cherished memory for each family member.
June will be forever cherished by his family, in loving memory of his beautiful, kindhearted and happy spirit.
