Maureen A. Schettino Obituary

Maureen Ann Schettino of Yonkers passed peacefully at the age of 80 in her home, surrounded by her loving family after a long illness.

Maureen was born in Yonkers on November 3, 1943, and was the beloved daughter of Thomas and Genevieve Gorman (Sullivan).

Maureen is survived by her loving and devoted husband of fifty-seven years, Michael Schettino and was the cherished mother of Michael (Michele) Schettino, Janine Schettino and, predeceased Scott Schettino.  Maureen had four siblings, predeceased by Donald Gorman, Brian Gorman, William Gorman, and survived by her sister, Jane Lee (Gorman).

Maureen was a doting Grandmother (Grammy) to Nicholas and Joseph Schettino. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She grew up in Yonkers and was a Teacher’s Assistant for the City of Yonkers. She loved children and was adored by many children throughout her life.

She loved listening to music (especially Barry Manilow), baking, cooking, shopping, and celebrating the Holidays.  She had a knack for finding special treasures for everyone she loved. She was a gentle, kind, and selfless soul that always put others first. Her heart and home were always an open door. She had an infectious laugh that would fill the room and bring joy to everyone around her. Maureen was an avid animal lover, and her dedication to Candy, MC, and Mugsy over the years was unparalleled.

Maureen embraced her Irish Heritage and made a mean corned beef and cabbage every year.

Maureen was a woman of strong faith, always praying for family and loved ones. She has lit many a candle over the years for those who have needed spiritual support. She was with God on a daily basis and is now home with the good Lord.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Maureen’s honor to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or the Alzheimer’s Association.
