Eugene Paul Soltis passed away at the age of 79 at St. John's Hospital this past Saturday evening on May 15, 2010. Mr. Soltis worked as an inspector at the General Motors Plant in Tarrytown for 44 years where he was known as the" Red Baron". He was an accomplished pianist having studied in Carnegie Hall in NYC and was blessed to share performance encounters with the late Bobby Short, Dudley Moore and Jimmy Lyons at the Waldorf Astoria. After his retirement from GM he devoted himself 24/7 to music.teaching, studing, music history and composing. He will be remembered for his master teaching as well as his eccentric sense of humor. "He had a brilliant way of healing people through laughter", said Marisa. Eugene P. Soltis (and his baby grande piano) is survived by his wife Dolores Soltis, daughter, Marisa, son-in-law Bernie Delgado, granddaughter, music students and cat "chappy". A Memorial reception to be announced at a later date.
