Obituary of Norma Locksa

Please share a memory of Norma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Norma Locksa, a lifetime Yonkers resident, passed away unexpectedly on July 3, 2024. She was 92 years old. Norma was born in Yonkers, New York and was the loving daughter of the late Joseph and Rose Grotto (Melfi). She was one of 9 children. Norma married her husband Edward, a WWII Navy Veteran, on September 18, 1954 in Yonkers, where they enjoyed raising their family together for many years. Norma was very involved in her local parish, St. John the Baptist, serving as a gym teacher during her children's school years, President of the Rosary Society, Eucharistic Minister, lector and active member of the SJB Seniors. She also proudly served as the first woman Trustee for the Church. Norma had a zest for life, always making sure she made the best of every day - whether it was attending an event for her local Senior citizen chapter, finding the next party to strut her stuff on the dance floor, or happily attending all her grandchildren's events so she could proudly boast about all their accomplishments. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her family and all those who loved her. Norma spent her final years at the Atria Assisted Living in Briarcliff Manor where you could often find her taking a daily exercise class, playing Bingo, going to her beauty salon appointments to get her hair done, or enjoying various daily activities and events, where she easily developed special friendships and bonds with both the staff and residents. Norma will be deeply missed by all who loved her. Norma was predeceased by her husband, Edward, parents Rose and Joseph Grotto, 8 brothers and sisters, Annette May, Rose Russo, Angela Beaumont, Peter, Robert, Joseph, Antone and Frances Ann Grotto and her beloved son-in-law, Anthony Pujia. Norma was a devoted mother to her daughters, Norma Jean (John) and Deborah (Frank) and cherished grandmother to her six grandchildren Jeannine (Anthony), Jessica (Tom), Anthony (Christina), Danielle, Alexandra and Francesca; as well as six great-grandchildren Antonia, Isabella, Alessia, Valentina, Giada, and her first great-grandson, Anthony, who she was so excited to meet in a few weeks. A funeral mass will be held for family and friends on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 10AM at St. John the Baptist Church located at 670 Yonkers Avenue, Yonkers NY 10704. She will be laid to rest immediately following at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, NY.
