Halpin, Kenneth James Ken Halpin 84, of Flagler Beach, FL and Bedford, NY passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Sunday. May 16, 2010. Ken is survived by his wife, Frances Greene Halpin, of 58 years; his seven children Kerry (Wayne) Crandall, Ormond Beach, FL, Susan Piercey, South Salem, NY, Maureen (Dick) Keys, Scituate, MA, Patricia (John) Dente, Cross River, NY, James (Elissa) Halpin, Bedford, NY, Timothy Halpin, Portland, ME, and Matthew Halpin, Bedford, NY; sixteen grandchildren and one great grand daughter. Additionally Ken is survived by his brother William (Nancy) Halpin, Nevada, and sisters Eileen Mahoney, Massachusetts, Margaret Moran, California, and Kathleen Osborne, New York. Predeceased by his parents, brother Thomas Halpin and sister Patricia Driscoll. Born in Bronx, NY October 17, 1925 to Thomas and Margaret (McInerney) Halpin, Ken served with honor in the US Navy from September, 1943 to April, 1946 as a Navy pharmacist's mate, 3rd class, attached to the Army's 29th Infantry, U.S.S. LST 497 Foxy 29, Medical Unit on Omaha Beach. In his words, "There's a universal feeling among men who have faced death and war. When the time came, we did what we had to do, but the emotion felt that day has never stopped." Ken was an active member, of more than 50 years and past commander of Moses Taylor Jr., Post 136, Mt. Kisco, NY. Ken was a man of deep faith and an active member of Santa Maria del Mar Roman Catholic parish, Flagler Beach, FL as well as a 40 year parishioner of St. Patrick Parish, Bedford, NY. Ken, Dad, Grandpa and Great Grandpa your words will never be forgotten, your laugh forever remembered your spirit always in our hearts. Friends may call at the Oelker-Cox & Sinatra Funeral Home, 262 E. Main St, Mt. Kisco on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass Saturday at St. Patricks Church, Bedford at 9:45 AM.
