Please share a memory of Celestina to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Celestina Costella Bardini was born on Easter Sunday morning, April 17, 1927 on East 56th Street in Manhattan, NY to Luisa and Giovanni Costella. She attended P.S. 59 and graduated from Manhattan HS of Women's Garment Trades in Manhattan where she excelled in machine operating.
Celestina married Gino Bardini in Our Lady of peace Church in NYC on September 7, 1947; he sadly passed away at the age of 54 in 1980.
She had three children, Gina Wright, Diane Narog, and Richard Bardini. Four grandchildren, Christina Corda, Vincent Pancaldo, Victoria Lo Turco and John Narog. Two great-grandsons, Gavin Pancaldo and Dante Lo Turco and one great-granddaughter, Nikolina Pancaldo. She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Stephanie Ann Narog.
Throughout her life, she was employed as a sales associate at Bonwit Teller on 5th avenue straight out of high school. Later, while raising her family, she was also employed by the Yonkers Public School System and The Halstead School as a cafeteria worker. When her children were in school full time she went back to her roots in retail and was employed for 21 years at Lord and Taylor in Eastchester where she was eventually promoted as the stores Head Cashier and manager of the fur storage. She was awarded Associate of the Month several times. She also worked at B. Altman's in White Plains after her retirement where she managed their Bridal Registry Department until the store eventually closed.
She enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes as well as doting on her Basset Hound companions. She loved current events, politics and whatever was the current trend. She was an amazing dressmaker, designing many prom dresses for her daughters among other creations. She had a great sense of humor and was a very enjoyable guest at any occasion. She will be greatly missed by her close-knit family as she was our backbone.
