Please share a memory of Helen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Helen R. Krell passed away peacefully on July 28, 2024, in Tampa, FL with family by her side. Helen was born on June 26, 1938, in Mount Pleasant, NY. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, George, and her parents Willis and Nellie Robbins. Helen is survived by her five children, Scott (Kathleen) of Liverpool, NY, Susan Quigley (James) of Brewster, NY, Stuart of Lutz, FL, Stephen of Jackson, LA, and Stacey of White Plains, NY. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Helen was raised in Armonk, NY where she attended Whippoorwill School and Pleasantville High School. She married her high school sweetheart, George, in 1956. Helen and George remained in Armonk where they raised their five children. With her husband and father both members of the Armonk Independent Fire Department, Helen became very involved in the Ladies Auxiliary. She was always ready to help when needed and served as President of the Auxiliary.
Helen worked for the Byram Hills School District in a variety of positions. Whether it be watching children on the playground at Whippoorwill Elementary School or serving lunch to the students at BHHS, she always enjoyed getting out of the house and seeing the kids each day.
When her children were of school age, Helen left the school district and began working for the Town of North Castle as a secretary in the Building Department. After many years with the Building Department, Helen began a new career working for IBM in their security department. She became the smiling greeter that welcomed employees and guests at their Westchester Avenue, White Plains location.
In 1991, she and George moved to the Golden Ponds Community in Fort Pierce, FL. Helen became active in all that the community had to offer and was a regular at the pool. Always the socialite, she was known to be the first person to reach out and say hello to any new face. Helen loved living in Golden Ponds but after suffering a debilitating stroke in 2019, she relocated to the Tampa area to be close to family. She greatly missed her Golden Ponds community and always expressed a desire to move back.
While at Golden Ponds, Helen supported the community's annual fundraising event for Hospice. Both Helen and George spent the end of their lives with tremendously caring staff at hospice facilities. For this reason, Helen's family knows she would be thrilled if in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to Melech Hospice House, 11125 N. 52nd Street, Temple Terrace, FL 33617.
Visitation hours will be at Oelker-Cox & Sinatra Funeral Home, 262 Main Street, Mt. Kisco, NY on Friday, August 9, 2024, between 4-8 pm. A prayer service will be at the funeral home at 10 am, Saturday, August 10, 2024. Burial to follow at Middle Patent Rural Cemetery.
