Obituary of Joseph F. Dronzek
Joseph F. Dronzek, known affectionately as Joe to his friends and family, was a man who embraced the fullness of life with passion and vigor. Born on July 14, 1940 in Yonkers, NY, Joe's journey through life was one of adventure, creativity, and connection. His time on earth may have come to a close in NYPH Weil Cornell, New York City on August 9, 2024, having bravely battling bladder cancer for 5 years and subsequently aggressive multiple myeloma, but the legacy he leaves behind is as vibrant and enduring as the life he led.
The son of Peter A. Dronzek and Josephine Mynarski, who predeceased him, Joe was a pillar of strength and a source of boundless love for his family. He was married to Marge Rosengrant from 1966 thru 1985. Their union was blessed with two daughters, Christine Stilo-Ison (David Ison) and Judith Dronzek. His pride and joy extended to his grandson, Anthony Stilo Jr., and three step-grandchildren, Alexis, Courtney, and Carter Ison. Joe's rich family life was further brightened by the presence of his eight brothers and sisters. He is predeceased by siblings Terry, Dorothy, Agnes, Josephine, Peter and Paul. He is survived by two sisters, Rosemary and Maryanne, and a host of 28 nieces and nephews who all cherished their uncle dearly.
Joe's early years were marked by his competitive spirit and his remarkable athletic prowess. A graduate of Saunders Trade and Technical High School, he found a unique calling on the water as a canoe sprinter. Racing in Canadian Doubles over 1,000 meters, he and his boatmate James O’Rourke captured the hearts of many, securing the AAU title in C-2 for two consecutive years, 1963 and 1964. This triumph led them to the prestigious 1964 Tokyo Olympics, proudly representing the Yonkers Canoe Club and the United States of America. Their team spirit and determination shone through again as part of the 1965 C-4 AAU Champions. Joe's love for canoeing rippled through his life, sharing countless paddling adventures with his daughters along the Hudson River and beyond.
Professionally, Joe was an electrician whose expert hands brought light and safety to the streets and structures of Westchester County. His work spanned iconic sites like the Bronx River Parkway and the Westchester County Center, culminating in his role as an Assistant Manager. His commitment to his craft was mirrored by his proud membership in the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Local 1, where his camaraderie with fellow members was legendary.
Beyond his professional and athletic endeavors, Joe was a man of many interests. He strummed the guitar with a folk circle that echoed his deep love for music. His adventurous spirit found joy in traveling the country with his friends in an RV, a journey that stretched all the way to Alaska. Joe's wanderlust also took him around the world on vacations with his daughters, experiences that deepened their bond and broadened their horizons. His hearty laugh and stories of life on Otter Island will be fondly remembered by all who shared in his love for the great outdoors, fishing, card games, and the thrill of a good casino visit.
A true renaissance man, Joe's hands could fix or build just about anything – if all else failed, duct tape was his trusty ally. His green thumb was no secret; come March, his greenhouse buzzed with activity, nurturing seedlings that would soon flourish into bountiful gardens. His tomatoes were the talk of the town, and he generously shared his harvest with family, friends and neighbors alike. As a proud chicken dad, his care extended to his feathered companions, whose antics brought him endless amusement.
Handy, creative, and friendly – these words only begin to capture Joe's essence. His kindness and love for people were not just traits but a way of being that transcended generations. Joe Dronzek lived a life that inspired, uplifted, and brought joy to those around him. His extraordinary journey through life serves as a testament to the power of embracing each day with enthusiasm, nurturing family bonds, pursuing passions, and, above all, spreading kindness. Joe's story may have reached its final chapter, but his spirit will continue to motivate and encourage us all to live our lives with the same fervent embrace.
