Francisco Mario Quevedo, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2024.
Francisco (Frank/Paco), was born on October 22nd, 1932 in Callao, Peru to Clorinda Quevedo Salazar and Francisco Quevedo Sr. He was the 2nd oldest of 8 children (Gloria, Julia, Elena, Rosario, Ernesto, Humberto, and Victor “Chani”). As a child, he grew up in a family so close and loving and this carried into how he was as a Husband, Father, and Grandfather. Frank was always so giving of himself and would do anything for you. He loved his entire family and always told many stories of growing up in Peru and the love he had for his wonderful parents, siblings and his entire family.
Frank fell in love with Maria Santos Machado in 1965, got married in Peru and they immigrated to the United States and settled in the Bronx, NY to live near his Uncle Leonidas and Aunt Rene and their family. They started their own family and had two children, Yvonne, and Frank Jr. and soon after, moved to Yonkers, NY.
Frank had worked at the General Motors plant in Tarrytown, NY for 37 years, until he retired. Although this was his full-time job, he had a very creative and talented mind. He loved the Arts and Music. As a young man, he wanted to play an instrument and was a self-taught Clarinet and Saxophone player. He was in a band for a little bit and then took a serious interest in Photography. He was a self-taught photographer and would take many photos of his family and children and took photos of nature. He then was employed part-time as a professional photographer for the Spanish newspaper, El Diario, La Prensa. He worked many hours in the evenings and on weekends, going to many sporting events, such as professional Soccer, Baseball, Wrestling, and Boxing events. He also took professional photos of President John F. Kennedy and was at the funeral of Robert F. Kennedy back in the 60s. He also loved to watch soccer and was a huge fan of the NY Cosmos soccer team.
Frank also loved to draw and paint. He took some Art classes at Westchester Community College and became an artist. He loved to paint using water color, pastels, and oils. His paintings started out as still drawings but then his love of abstract painting became what he loved to paint the most. His paintings were then exhibited in many locations throughout Westchester County and a few times in NYC. His paintings of the lighthouse in Tarrytown were exhibited in art galleries in Tarrytown, NY. His art was also exhibited at the ArtsWestchester gallery in White Plains, NY.
Frank and Maria used to love to travel on cruises, take bus trips to Atlantic City and many other places. After he retired, he loved to take day trips weekly to the museums that were of interest, such as MOMA and the Guggenheim. Also, for all his life he loved the ocean and was a great swimmer and loved to go fishing in Montauk, NY. In his later years he and Maria took their family to Montauk and have been going there for over 20 years, until he could not go anymore. His children and grandchildren have promised to carry on this tradition and will always cherish these beautiful memories.
Francisco is survived by his children, Yvonne Quevedo Spano and Frank Quevedo, Jr., his grandchildren, Scott Spano, Danielle Spano, and Anthony Spano. He is also survived by his brother Ernesto Quevedo Salazar and Victor “Chani” Quevedo Salazar and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
