Obituary of John F. Fermann

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John Francis Fermann was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on December 14, 1941, to Marie (Lutmer) and Harry Fermann. John and his sisters, Judy (Clark) and Jane, grew up in the Deer Park suburb of the city attending St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Deer Park and St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati. At Xavier University in Cincinnati John earned his business degree and worked in marketing research for most of his career. John and his wife, Lois (Gaspic) met on a business trip in early 1969 to several cities in the mid-west exploring potential market research sites for new products Lois' employer was investigating. Within four months they were planning their wedding and were married in Hartford, CT, on September 6, 1969. They settled in Cincinnati, where John was employed by Spar, Inc., a marketing research company. John and Lois moved from the Cincinnati area to Mount Kisco, NY, in 1973 when John was transferred to the New York office. They settled in Mt. Kisco and raised their family of three sons: Justin, Eric and Mark. Justin and Bridget live in Northampton, MA; Eric, Valerie, daughter Abigail and son Michael live in Ossining, NY; Mark and Kristina live in Colonie, NY. John's interest in others and curious nature was often hidden by his quiet demeanor. He enjoyed fishing, and especially enjoyed coaching children in soccer when his sons were young and would often reference that time in his life. He paid attention to the world around him, and was a patient and attentive listener who was always interested in hearing about your life. John was a faithful friend – those who knew him would testify to that. In retirement, John donated his time counseling youths suffering from abuse and addiction, and remained a faithful member of his church. John was proud of his garden and enjoyed sharing produce with his family and neighbors, he adored his grandchildren, and never failed to provide an amazing fruit salad at every family event. John passed away after a long struggle with multiple health problems. He will be greatly missed by his family and those trusted friends. Family and friends will gather to celebrate John's life at the Oelker-Cox funeral home in Mt. Kisco on Sunday, August 26th, 2:00 to 5:00 pm. John's funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis of Assis Church in Mt. Kisco at 11:30 a.m., on Monday, August 27th. Burial will follow the Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery in Mt. Kisco.
