Obituary of Jay Neal Brown

Please share a memory of Jay to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jay Neal Brown "BJ" Jay Neal Brown was born on July 2,1960 in Yonkers, New York. A beloved brother, uncle, cousin and friend, he departed this life on September 3, 2024 at Saint Joseph's Medical Center. The youngest child of Rosalee Ford Brown and James White, Jay was raised in a loving home surrounded by his parents and older siblings, who he loved being around. He was known as "BJ" to many, a nickname he adopted in honor of his father. He was skilled in working with his hands and good at fixing things. Jay had a passion for music, cars, sports, television, and animals (especially dogs), interests that would remain with him for life. Jay was a product of the Yonkers school system and while in school he developed a special fondness for drumming, joining the drum majors. He was also a member of several sports teams. He attended Yonkers High School before moving with his mother to her hometown of Boca Raton where his schooling continued. In Florida, Jay's passion for cars grew and he earned his professional certification as an automotive lube technician, winning accolades throughout his career. A free spirit and kind soul, Jay marched to the beat of his own drum, but always loved to be with family and friends. He was a devoted son to his mother who instilled in him a deep love and fear of God. At family gatherings, he could often be heard as the loudest laugh in the room. Fun times could be had in a party filled with people or at home watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys or his favorite shows on TV. Though he fought many personal battles in life, he tried to greet every day and every person he met with a smile and a laugh. If he saw that you were down, he could be counted on to try to cheer you up. In the final months of his life, Jay found joy caring for his dog Storm and being with friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents Rosalee and James; his siblings Bernice Brown, Cleveland Brown, James White, Beatrice White, and Barbara White; and sister-in-law Lorraine Holland. Left behind to carry on his legacy of love and laughter are his devoted sister and chief nagger/carer, Renee Brown; beloved brothers Ulysses Brown (Helen) and Richard Brown (Linda); nieces Cecilia White, Heather Brave (Kevin), Lanie Brown (aka Sugarfoot), Andrea Pfeiffer, Deidre Semedo (Johnson), and Alimah Boyd; nephews William White Sr. (Eve), Eddie Glover Jr., Cleveland Brown Jr. (Bonnie), Damon Brown (Brenda), and Tory Brown; as well as a host of grand nephews and nieces, cousins, and other family and friends. Jay had a caring heart that was sometimes masked by a gruff exterior. The family would like to thank everyone who took the time to check on him, offer him kindness or simply remind him that he was a cherished and needed member of their community.
