Obituary of Maria A. Urraca

Please share a memory of Maria to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
With profound sadness and gratitude, we announce the passing of Maria A. Urraca on Thursday, October 3, 2024, just shy of her 100th birthday. Our loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and matriarch spent her last moments while in her home surrounded by her loved ones in Yonkers, NY. Born in Monte Plata, Dominican Republic on November 23, 1924 to father Julian Hernandez and mother Caridad Zambrano, Maria was the youngest of 9 children. She lived a full life as a wonderful mother, grandmother, friend and mentor. What a deep passion she had for cooking, hosting, sewing and knitting anything and everything for her family. Most of all she loved her family and friends, and instilled good values in her children and grandchildren that have served them well. She was predeceased by her devoted husband Gabriel Urraca; grandchildren Jeffery Hernandez and Gabriel (Tito) Hernandez; children Ramon Rogelio Hernandez, Gabriel Urraca, and Carmen Hereida. Her legacy, love, and impact is shown throughout her 11 children; 34 grandchildren; 48 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; son-in-laws, daughter-in-laws, and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins. A warrior, the epitome of true love, kindness, and understanding are just a few words to describe the essence of Maria. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. Her love transcends all dimensions, and we are honored for her presence in our lives.
