Obituary of Ronald Joseph Melancon

Please share a memory of Ronald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ronald J. Melancon passed away on December 29, 2024 at the age of 84. Ron was born in Park Slope Brooklyn where he attended parochial schools, St. Saviour Catholic Academy and St. John's Prep High School. His family moved to Yorktown and soon after, he enlisted in the US Navy (1958-61) where he served as a torpedo man on destroyers. A devoted husband to Kathleen Phillips Melancon, Ron is survived by his daughter Deborah and son Richard, six grandsons: Jason, Rye, Philip, Jack, Weston and Daniel, his granddaughter Morgan and four great grandkids: Kacie, Joe, Melanie and Eleanor. He is also survived by his sister, Sally and her daughters Michelle and Robin, and cousins Richie, Mike, and Jimmy Hanna. Ron was an award-winning editor/columnist for Patent Trader Newspapers for 25 years. A great story teller, Ron always made sure his friends knew about the two summers he spent as a Brooklyn Dodgers shoeshine boy at Ebbets Field. He was fired when he left his customer in the middle of a shine to watch a bases loaded situation in a crucial Dodgers/Giants game. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rosary Hill Home, Hawthorne, NY.
